''Wow what a sound'' these were the opening comments made by the American adjudicator Dr Andre J Thomas in delivering his adjudication on the Pontarddulais Male Choir's winning performance at this years Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
Continuing his adjudication Dr Thomas, whose fellow adjudicators were Jean Stanley Jones and Ralph Allwood, said the choir has given a thrilling performance with clear diction and good balance. The adjudicators had been impressed with the wide use of dynamic levels but at the same time had maintained great sensitivity for such a large ensemble.
Noel Davies MBE, who has been the choir's Musical Director since its formation in 1960, was given a rousing welcome by the eisteddfod audience when he was presented with the International Trophy.
Noel is no stranger to the Eisteddfod platform has he has led the choir to a record eleven wins at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales. Winning this international competition against ten other male choirs from all over the world has been one of Noel's and the choir's greatest achievements. The choir was superbly and perceptively accompanied on the piano by Clive Phillips.
