The choir presented its 41st Annual Concert at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea on Saturday 24th November under the direction of Noel Davies, Musical Director and Accompanist Clive Phillips. The choir's guests were Jennifer Rhys-Davies (Soprano), Erian James (Mezzo-Soprano) and 'Y Tri Baswr' (Tom Evans, Trebor Lloyd Evans and Iwan Wyn Parry) with their accompanist Eirian Owen.
Welsh born Jennifer Rhys-Davies has performed with all the major opera companies in Great Britain and is in regular demand for roles in Europe. Future plans inlude Lucrega Borge, Countess Maritze and a Purcell project with Herbert Wernicke. Eirian James was born in Wales and is now recognised as one of Britain's leading singers with a flourishing operatic, concert and recording career. Her British appearances have seen her on the stage of all our leading opera companies and her international career has taken her to many of the major opera houses of the world. More recently Eirian performed Cherubini and Diane ( Hipperlaite de Circxe) and an award winning recording with Les Curs Floirsants under William Christie in Paris. Eirian and Jennifer also thrilled the audience with a performance of The Cat Duet (Rossini).
'Y Tri Baswr' are all members of Côr Godre'r Aran and winners in their own right at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. Eirian Owen is Musical Director of Côr Godre'r Aran and has been for many years an official accompanist at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.
The near capacity audience were treated to an evening of outstanding music. In addition to the choral, solo and trio pieces the artisites joined the choir in a number of items. Eirian joined the choir in Penderyn (trad.), Jennifer sang Sanctus (Gounod) with the choir. The concert ended with the choir and 'Y Tri Baswr' performing Cytgan y Pererinion (Parry).
The concert was a fitting close to another busy and memorable year for the choir.
