In 1960 Pontarddulais Male Choir was formed from a youth choir.
As part of the choir’s 50th anniversary celebrations we felt we should take the initiative to possibly create a similar group where young men who have perhaps a latent interest in singing to become involved in a chorus, particularly given the focus programmes like the BBC`s `The Last Choir Standing` and the Choir – Unsung Town with Gareth Malone on BBC2 have given choral music over the last year.
Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion – Group of young men under the Musical Director ship of Islwyn Evans – Won the Male Chorus Competition at Llangollen this year.
Under the Musical Directorship of - Rhiannon Williams – Hale
(Pontarddulais` Associate Accompanist` we are looking for young men Aged between 14 – 24 to participate in this initiative.
Whilst the initial practice held last week was encouraging, we’d be more than pleased to see more potential choristers at our next practice which will be held Wednesday 21 October at 5.45 pm at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School for approx 1 hour.
At the moment the approach to repertoire is a little more contemporary than perhaps that which would normally be associated with male voice choirs and the emphasis is upon the enjoyment that can be had form being part of such a group making music.
If you’re interested by all means come along to the next practice which is at 5.45 pm on Wednesday 21.10.09 or contact the choir’s Secretary Lyn Anthony on 01792 884279. You can also visit the choir’s website at
At this stage the initiative is fully supported by Pontarddulais Male Choir.
